Laurel II House McClean Design

mcclean design

Since its founding in 2000, McClean Design has grown into one of the leading contemporary residential design firms, committed to excellence in modern design. After working for a few years in downtown Chicago, I made the move out to Southern California for life’s next adventure. Everything around us can be designed, and what we design is a result of what inspires us and what we want to inspire in others. I grew up in Ireland where I attended the Dublin Institute of Technology graduating with honors in architecture in 1994.

PROJECTS

I first found those intertwining fields pushing me towards a love of music, which still flourishes but evolved into a love of architecture. After SDSU, I got my master’s degree from NewSchool of Architecture with concentration in digital architecture and fabrication and became a licensed Architect shortly thereafter. As a project manager at McClean Design, I work on all aspects of the building process, from early schematic design to construction administration. There is a holistic approach to our design method where we fully embrace our client’s lifestyle and transform it into something that is both artistically timeless and simplistically functional.

TEMPLE HILLS II

This inspired me to attend Mendrisio Academy of Architecture in Switzerland where I received a Master’s of Science in Architecture in 2017. As a university student, I’ve learned how to put these passions into a design process in order to create an architectural piece, with a connection between space, light and the environment. After working for two years at an architectural firm in Florence, I decided it was time for a life-changing experience.

Materials were selected to withstand the corrosion of salt air, but there are luxurious accents, notably an onyx wall in one of the powder rooms. A glass bridge sails over a lower-level swimming pool, and leading to the great room, which runs almost the whole width of the house. Heaters and a two-sided fireplace allow the covered patio and spa at one end to be used year-round. A stainless steel, spiral staircase with limestone treads links the three levels and sparkles in the light of suspended globes.

MODERN LUXURY INTERIORS

During my time at university I traveled extensively and worked for award winning architectural practices in London, Dublin and Sydney, Australia. I also had an opportunity to work with the Monument Service of Ireland sketching and surveying many of the historic castles and monasteries dotted throughout the Irish landscape. In addition, I spent a year working with a firm in Dublin on museums and art galleries in the national capital. After graduation, I arrived in Southern California and worked for various local architectural firms before establishing McClean Design in 2000. Outdoor areas readily penetrate inside spaces to create a visibly seamless threshold between exterior and interior. Marcheeta I is located on a tight lot in a very desirable tract in the hills above Sunset plaza. Our goals for this project were to make the most of the views and utilize the terrain of the lot to allow for a large basement level entertaining area as well as parking. We achieved this using a beautiful marble wall that completely screens the front of the house and creates an entry water courtyard that opens to the kitchen.

MODERN LUXURY

mcclean design

The living area contains a unique bar area with an aquarium back drop and a clear glass floor to the wine cellar below. A home office next to the kitchen area enjoys a unique perspective, borrowing views across the living room and the courtyard, as well as opening to a small, landscaped patio. The remainder of the program for the upper level consists of two additional bedrooms, as well as support spaces. Since its founding in 2000, McClean Design has grown into one of the leading contemporary residential design firms in Southern California committed to excellence in modern design. We are currently working on a wide variety of projects across much of North America with additional projects overseas. We work with both homeowners and developers and our staff offers a full range of design skills ensuring that our projects are completed in a timely manner and to the highest standards.

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. My passion for high-end residential architecture inspired my relocation to Southern California. After being given the amazing opportunity to work at McClean Design, I have been fortunate enough to contribute to the design and development of some of the most luxurious custom homes in the world.

I particularly liked working on the house at Point Place, listed under projects, and my native German has come in useful with our recent projects in Bavaria. Each interior design project is unique to me, from the smallest children’s room to the largest home. My goal with every project is to help my clients create a warm and inviting environment that will maximize the potential of each space for years to come. The primary space is a large room with a warm bar area, seating surrounding the fireplace, and a pool table, with direct access to the courtyard and views to the west through the adjacent library space.

The house is flooded with natural light through the use of large operable walls and linear skylights. We worked with Lynda Murray Interior Design to create a palette of rich warm natural tones using different stones and wood ceilings to give the home a comfortable feel. The pool on the main level of the house cascades into a water feature below which wraps around a fire pit off the main entertaining space. A unique feature of the home is the skylights within the pool that allow daylight and views of swimmers to the pool below. Balboa Peninsula runs parallel to the Pacific coast, just south of Newport Beach, enclosing a sound that is alive with pleasure boats. That makes it a picturesque location for houses that back up to the marina, but most are generic structures squeezed onto narrow lots.

A highlight of my jobis building relationships with our clients and seeing their dream homescome to fruition. The process of designing a home is very personal to eachclient and it is very rewarding to see the finished product. Our studio isfilled with creative minds that collaborate to create unique one-of-a-kinddesigns. When I'm not designing or visiting a job site, you can find me on thegolf course or a surfboard.

The nearby kitchen and family room are more intimate in feel and seamlessly connect to a poolside outdoor covered patio and kitchen area. The main bedroom reached across the stairwell is elevated to add a sense of privacy, while still connecting to the garden by way of a terrace and outdoor fire pit area. With glass walls retracting on two sides and a terrific view toward downtown LA, the bedroom and adjacent bathroom appear to float above the city below. I was born and raised in a little town in Lake Como in the northern region of Italy. Since childhood, I’ve always had a creative mind and have been very passionate about hand-drawings and model-making.

I have been able to establish lasting relationships with high quality builders and other design professionals helping to ensure that our entire team is committed to realizing the dreams and aspirations of our clients. It is what I wanted to do as a little boy and which I am lucky enough to be able to practice today and hopefully for a very long time. We continue to strive for excellence in design and to push the boundaries of imagination in creating extraordinary spaces that we hope will provide enjoyment for many years to come. Presently, I am practicing new approaches to architecture and assisting in the design process with 3D models, drawings, and presentations. Moved over to the U.S. with my husband in my early twenties and we have lived here ever since.

Start Designing Your Dream Home Today

✔️ Easy-to-use interface for simple house planning creation and customization. One of the best things about the software is that it is wizard-driven. This means it allows you to work on your projects both smoothly and quickly, even if you have no design experience.

As far as we can tell, it’s genuinely free throughout and so are all its features. The way it works, is brands add their products to its catalogue, which means you’ll be using actual products to furnish and decorate your home. The perks of this is that you’ll be able to plan your design through to the very end and have access to the actual furniture and decorations you used to create your space imaginatively.

If you go for the SketchUp app, which is pretty affordable from just $95 a year, then you can even hand-draw floor plans on your iPad with an Apple Pencil. You can draw plans from scratch or upload blueprints, populate plans with over 150,000 different items, and generate both 2D and 3D models with this free floor plan program. In fact, it's so intuitive that there's almost no need for the tutorial videos available, which is another plus for this software. Of all the home design tools, this one has a tutorial video available for every question you might have. The free version is perfect for hobbyists, while the pro version is more suited to professionals in architecture, construction, engineering and commercial interior design.

There is a wide range of options in the design library for every style. Start from scratch or opt for editing sample projects while you customize colors, textures, furniture, decorations, etc. You can try out different textures and colors, build walls and design the slope of your roof or build a deck. For example, if you want to upload a photo of a landscape as the base of your design, you need to pay for a software like iScape as this feature isn’t available on free programs. You’re also going to need to pay for a CAD software if you want to actually create 3D models of your design elements from scratch, rather than using pre-built ones. It uses a drag-and-drop method, so it’s super easy to use, and you can simply search the catalog using keywords to find different elements.

That way, if the person who makes the schedule discovers the equipment isn’t available until a later date, you’ll be informed and can adjust the timeline and budget accordingly—before the actual work begins. Consider the needs and expectations of all stakeholders and/or beneficiaries when determining your goals, and get their approval early on. Make sure your team members weigh in on the accuracy and feasibility of the goals you define, as well. Remember, the more of this you can figure out ahead of time, the easier your project will be to manage later. Define Project GoalFirst and foremost, you should meet with your team and key stakeholders to define the ultimate goal or outcome of your project. This might be the product that is going to be developed, the service that will be provided, or the problem your project will solve.

But it’s not as easy as simply telling (or demanding) a graphic designer to create a new logo and hope for the best. They need direction, goals, parameters, and the right assets to effectively optimize their workflows. Graphic designers, like other creatives, are specially qualified to bring your ideas to life.

The Future of Architecture: BioDiverCities and Nature-based Solutions

This method promotes collaboration between all stakeholders and is best for when the scope of a project may change over time. The waterfall methodology follows a linear process with distinct phases. It works best for projects with defined requirements and expectations from the start where you’re working within a set timeline.

It sets the stage for the project initiation and project planning phase and important documents like the project charter and project plan. Pfeiffer, a Perkins Eastman Studio, is a design firm of architects, interior designers and planners, with offices in downtown Los Angeles and New York City. The firm works nationally and internationally with an emphasis on cultural and educational projects for both public and private clients. Its projects marry smart planning with unusually effective client and team engagement for imaginative architectural solutions.

“A keepsake for you might be rocks and foraged curiosities, but it could be rare books and photographs for someone else. One thing we all want is a beautiful place to store our special things. I wanted to create a collection of crafted leather forms that allow you to store and keep the important things to you,” Henderson said about the lineup.

Buttressed by project-directed research, the work of Kevin Daly Architects interweaves innovation in technology and fabrication, sustainability and urbanism, livability and economy. The firm’s award-winning portfolio includes environmentally and socially responsive educational, residential, and institutional projects ranging in scale from single-room artist workspaces to campus master planning. Kevin Daly Architects is particularly recognized for reclaiming and transforming sites characteristic of the urban fabric, turning generic background buildings into models of community identity. The work of David Hertz Architects Inc, Studio of Environmental Architecture (SEA), focuses on designing and constructing environmentally responsible residential and commercial buildings.

The distinctive motif will also enhance the geometric shape of a series of trays that the label developed with Italian design company Bonacina. In another new turn, the collection will be see now, buy now, dropping both online and at the La DoubleJ store in Milan during the design week. The book is now available to buy exclusively at Zegna stores globally and online at the brand’s website. “We are very proud to unveil the ‘Born in Oasi Zegna’ book that narrates a timeless story never told before. It’s a legacy that the founder, our great grandfather, left us for the future generations. His vision went beyond reason and as a generation we are just its custodians” stated Edoardo Zegna, chief marketing, digital and sustainability officer.

To deliver successful outcomes, design project management incorporates several key UX functions, including creative direction, UX design, DesignOps, and design leadership. Finally, the brief includes project details, deliverables, budget, timelines, and scope so that everyone has the same expectations. Design briefs are great for keeping both client and design teams aligned. As you take on more design projects, think of ways to probe the right information out of your clients right out of the gate. Cover the basics but also get specific, ask questions, and use previous client feedback in addition to your own experience to perfect your intake process. “We — designer, project manager, and chief creative officer — review all incoming requests and schedule out tasks based on deadlines and team bandwidth.

Defining your customer's pain points is extremely important, as removing these challenges will likely be the key to winning your customer's loyalty. It's where you can set aside any current limitations and imagine the best experience for your persona. Keep in mind if you want to choose a more generic and tool like Asana or Notion, suitable for any industry, or if you want one tailored specifically for freelance designers like Gency.

It’s an early phase in the project lifecycle and often comes before a project plan or charter. This is because it focuses on the project overview rather than the specific details. Visual aids such as flowcharts, Gantt charts, and timelines are often used to help paint a picture for project stakeholders in this early step. Your project design documentation should explain how the learning products will be made public, who they will be presented to, what impact this will have on the audience, and whether work will continue after the product is presented. List any resources (such as personnel, equipment, or facilities) students will need. Include what the product’s content will be, and which learning outcomes and skills will be evaluated.

If you’ve been a project manager for a while, you know that things rarely happen on time. Clients might take longer to review than anticipated or team members could suddenly call off sick for an extended period of time. This is a common problem for design teams because their requests tend to require more changes and revisions than other marketing teams. What makes this even harder is that design can be such a subjective discipline.

Identify the primary skills and outcomes that your project will help students achieve. While every project will vary, the following steps are generally recommended in any type of education project design. These steps are based on information from the Buck Institute for Education (BIE)—a renowned nonprofit that helps educators teach project-based learning—as well as on testimony from industry experts. While nonprofit project design centers on problems and solutions, education project design focuses on questions and answers. In project-based learning, teachers help students learn necessary knowledge and skills by designing projects that engage them in independent research and inquiry, resulting in the presentation of a final learning product. In this case, there is an initiation phase, during which you create a detailed project plan, project charter, or project initiation document (PID).

Regular check-ins with the team shouldn’t take away important design time, but a weekly 10-minute block to touch base will give you peace of mind when reporting back to stakeholders. A thorough planning stage sets your team up for overall project success. This is where you can assess your design concept for potential bottlenecks or setbacks, and properly prepare before you proceed.

otis house of 1000 corpses

It stars Sid Haig, Bill Moseley, Sheri Moon, Karen Black, Rainn Wilson, Chris Hardwick, Tom Towles, Erin Daniels, Jennifer Jostyn, Walton Goggins, and Dennis Fimple in his final role. The plot centers on a group of teenagers who are kidnapped and tortured by a psychotic family during Halloween after traveling across the country to write a book. After a decade of being mostly sober, Spector began going out again and ventured out on Feb. 2, 2003 for a night on the town.

Filled with beautiful headstones dating back to 1884, Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery has the perfect creepy aura for a Halloween cemetery trip. The cemetery is poorly maintained, which heightens the spookiness of the cemetery. While the cemetery is primarily full of politicians, there are a few interesting figures to visit during your tour of Angelus-Rosedale. Maria Rasputin, daughter of Russian mystical healer and close friend of Russia’s Imperial family Grigori Rasputin, is buried here.

Filmography

A palace for Disney, Pixar and Marvel Cinematic Universe movies since its restoration in 1989, the El Capitan Theatre (6838 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles 90028) boasts an expansive sweet shop for the kids and an old-fashioned stage show before the picture. However, like Disneyland itself, the El Capitan has its ghostly dark side. In its previous life, the theater was the site of a suicide in the balcony seats and the death of a manager in its office. When Disney revived the El Capitan, legend has it they walled off the window above the entryway, where his ghost could still be seen from the street.

It's also the site of Laura Palmer’s funeral in Twin Peaks, and the moment in Halloween when Judith Myers' headstone is discovered to be missing. Durst's trial began in March 2020 and resumed in May 2021 after a 14-month adjournment due to COVID-19. In September 2021, the jury convicted Robert Durst for the first degree murder of his best friend Susan Berman. Durst had tried to escape justice by posing as a deaf-mute woman in Texas. According to her biographer, Berman had been killed because she knew too much about the 1982 disappearance of Durst’s wife Kathie, who has never been found. Durst was previously tried and acquitted of the murder and dismemberment of his elderly neighbor Morris Black.

Bill Moseley: Otis

“It’s a pre-9/11 film, released to a post-9/11 audience, that somehow really handily preempts all these themes we had suddenly become obsessed with in our movies,” Martin said. Surveillance, captivity, revenge, paranoia, culture clash—it was all in there. Although House of 1000 Corpses is a cult classic that made Zombie a household name in the horror genre, the director himself actually doesn't like the film very much.

Evil Dead: Another New Spinoff Movie in Development

On the run, Otis and Baby waded through the nearby swamp until they came to a highway. Baby laid upon the road pretending to be unconscious until a motorist stopped to check on her condition. As the woman leaned over Baby, Otis sprung up from behind and stabbed her to death. They stole the woman's car and drove until they reached the Kahiki Palms Motel.

Mary attempts to run away, but is tracked down and stabbed to death by Baby moments later. Visit a cemetery and commingle with the flyest residents of the afterlife, of course. You’ll also find that L.A.’s cemeteries offer some lush (or creepy) sights, and are backed with important history.

By 1956, it also offered a crematorium, mortuary, and flower shop, turning it into a one-stop-shop for all death-related needs. Others, like Moseley, Karen Black, and Sid Haig, spent years running what McClelland characterized as an “underground publicity tour” simply by going to horror conventions and signing autographs. McClelland, who estimated he goes to three or four cons a year himself, would see them frequently, set up behind booths and interacting with delighted fans. Now terrified that House of 1,000 Corpses would be slapped with an NC-17 rating—a box-office kiss of death—the studio asked Zombie to tone the movie down. “It was kind of this crazy carnival going on at Universal in the backlot,” Gibbs said, adding that at night, the crew would climb up the hill “and party at the Psycho house.” Then they’d crash, wake up, and do it all over again. Safety was an afterthought, with one scene calling for an actor to dodge a real ax wielded by another performer whose vision was severely compromised by his costume.

The only clue they received was a list of 600 burials along with the deed. The mystery, however, still remains, as only 13 tombstones and a little over 200 gravesites are found. If you look at the history of the Chinese Cemetery of Los Angeles, you'll find a reminder of how pervasive racism can be. The cemetery in East Los Angeles, right at the intersection of the 710 and 60 freeways, exists because Los Angeles citizens of Chinese ancestry were formally barred from buying burial plots in official L.A. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 placed a moratorium on immigration of Chinese laborers for ten years, but the racist repercussions lasted far longer. Even once the moratorium was lifted, anti-Chinese sentiment had pervaded the American consciousness.

Otis' inherent depravity paved the way for his various grotesque hobbies. An unrepentent killer and fetishist, Otis enjoyed kidnapping and torturing victims, particularly cheerleaders, sometimes even skinning them. It was not uncommon for him to engage in necrophelia, and making skin costumes from the flesh of his victims.

For a period of time, Moseley operated as a journalist, writing for such magazines as Omni,[5] National Lampoon and Psychology Today. Moseley was born in Stamford, Connecticut, and grew up in Barrington Hills, Illinois.[1] He is the son of Virginia Gillette (Kleitz), a journalist, and S. Mukes goes to about 20 cons a year now, often dressed as Rufus in a grimy plaid shirt and filthy jeans. Frequently, to gas himself up before an appearance, he’ll watch House of 1,000 Corpses. House of 1,000 Corpses hit theaters and landed in second place at the domestic box office in its first week, behind only Jack Nicholson’s Anger Management.

While these genres might not seem to blend at first glance, none of that mattered to Zombie, who is a huge fan of the legendary comic. "I was a big Marx Brothers fan when I was a little kid because their movies were always on TV," Zombie remarked in 2016. "A Night at the Opera, in particular, was on a lot. So I discovered the Marx Brothers movies around the same time I discovered any movie, really."

He tied Otis to a chair and drove large nails through his hands, pinning him to the arms of the chair. He showed him photographs of his past victims, which he then stapled to Otis' chest. Wydell tortured all three of them at length then set the house on fire with the intent of burning them alive. Fortunately, Baby's brother Tiny showed up, killed Wydell and freed the three captives.

More people are catching on (including Universal, which used House of 1,000 Corpses as the basis for part of its annual Halloween Horror Nights in 2010, 2011, and 2019). Cherry also runs a server on the social messaging platform Discord that has accumulated more than 150 members, who gather to discuss and post about Zombie’s movies and other horror flicks like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The movie mutated on the fly, the scenes mercury in Zombie’s hands as he showed up each morning brimming with new ideas—new pages for the cast to memorize, new sets for the crew to construct. His finished film was Texas Chainsaw Massacre but more gleeful and carnivalesque; it was The Rocky Horror Picture Show but more cramped and grotesque. It was the Marx Brothers and the Manson family chopped up and blitzed in a blender, then poured straight down your gullet as you’re held down by a late-night horror host from the 1950s and an MTV editor from the 1990s. Reports about a Devil's Rejects sequel emerged last year, with the news taking fans by surprise.

While Mother Firefly killed Lt. Wydell in her kitchen, Otis went outback where he found Donald Willis and Deputy Steve Naish. He shot Willis in the back, then killed Naish by shooting him in the head at point blank range. He then skinned Willis and made himself a Halloween cotume from his flesh. Wearing his Donald costume, Otis descended the staircase where the three others, Mary, Denise and Jerry were bound together in adult-sized rabbit costumes.

In time, director Rob Zombie bought the rights, and went on his own harrowing adventure to find another distributor. MGM eventually picked up the film and scheduled it for release in October 2002, but it was dropped after Zombie reportedly joked about Universal having "no morals" for not distributing the film, and then, "Well, MGM picked it up. I guess they have no morals." Otis is a fictional serial killer played by actor Bill Moseley and first appeared in the 2003 horror film House of 1000 Corpses, directed by Rob Zombie.

For Mama Firefly, Zombie turned to Karen Black of Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces fame. Sid Haig, a cult film legend known for his work in Spider Baby and Foxy Brown, was tapped to play the gonzo clown Captain Spaulding. Zombie had just gone solo when Universal decided to give him a blank check and the run of their backlot. Riding high off the success of his latest album, Hellbilly Deluxe, he was designing a scare maze for the studio’s Halloween Horror Nights when an executive turned to him and asked if he had any movie ideas. "When we were about ready to roll, I had a bit of an advance notice since it took me about a year and a half to grow that beard," the actor points out. He is presumably the father of Mama Firefly, previously known as Gloria Teasdale.

Dr. Satan might not be real

A nasty little stink bomb of a grindhouse slasher, the “plot” of House of 1,000 Corpses, if it can be called that, concerns four kids (including a pre-Office Rainn Wilson) who get lost on the backroads of America while searching for a local legend named Dr. Satan. Instead of finding him, they’re captured by a psychotic family called the Fireflys, who—spoilers—brutally kill off the youngsters one by one. People tend to be their own worst critics — although critics have plenty of scathing things to say about House of 1000 Corpses. While House of 1000 Corpses is brilliant to many, it was, as mentioned earlier, Zombie's directorial debut, so he's bound to look back and find issues with it.

It is a Roman Catholic cemetery, operated and maintained by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Bela Lugosi, most famous for his portrayal of the original 1931 Dracula, is buried here. The cemetery is currently under new ownership, but has had a dark history with previous owners, lawsuits and maintenance issues. In 2005, the cemetery’s license was suspended after officials found cremated remains of people who had passed as early as the 1930s scattered in trash bins and storage rooms. A year later, Marsha Howard, one of the cemetery owners, was found dead from natural causes in the cemetery and being reported missing. Fans of Leo G. Carroll can also pay their respects to the actor famous for his Hitchcock films here.

Baby killed Mary and brought her body back to the site where Otis and the others burned her on an altar made of branches. Jerry and Denise were locked inside a coffin and lowered into a tunnel that fed into an underground operating room. The operating room was administered by a psychotic surgeon known as Doctor Satan. Denise briefly managed to escape, but Otis re-captured her and brought her back to Doctor Satan's lair. He was horribly neglected and abused by his parents who didn't even give him a name.

House of 1000 Corpses won't go down in history as the most commercially successful horror movie of all time, nor the most critically acclaimed. This hardcore horror film's style plays like a terrifying music video, providing a roller coaster ride of gruesomely colorful scenes. To the squeamish, this movie can come off as shocking, repulsive, and downright unwatchable, due to its gory nature.

Pick from authentic, immersive Epic Trips, compact and action-packed Mini Trips and sparkling, expansive Sailing Trips. Mountain View Mortuary, Crematory, and Cemetery is located at 2400 N Fair Oaks Ave. in Altadena. Rose Hills Memorial Park is located at 3888 Workman Mill Rd in Whittier. A lot of the poor upkeep of the cemetery may be traced to its owner, who has been accused of "grave desecration" and "unlawful burial of multiple bodies in a single plot," among other things. The Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery is located at 1831 W Washington Blvd, Los Angeles.

It does, after all, contain torturous mental abuse, bloody murder, and, for good measure, necrophilia. To fans, however, it's one of Rob Zombie's masterpieces, and the film that launched his career in horror. When the studio shelved the film fearing that it would receive an NC-17 rating,[7] Zombie re-acquired the rights. They were eventually sold to Lions Gate Entertainment, who released the film in April 2003. Despite receiving an unfavorable response from critics, it went on to gross $16 million worldwide.

For the aging Signal editor, the renumbering must have added insult to injury. Just a year earlier, the county had replaced the familiar "Spruce Street" signs in the business district with "San Fernando Road." "Not until cards began to come [in the mail] did realization spread that Newhall was due to lose another chunk of its quaint and charming village atmosphere," he lamented. "[Now] it seems that villagers are belatedly building up a slow burn on the subject. There are even rumors of petitions. Now, with the deal all set up, we are starting to raise a holler we should have started a month ago." In that sense, it was a bit like the expansion of Valencia west of Interstate 5 in the 21st Century.

Still, 37 “no” votes, while a break from Washington’s ironclad support for the Jewish state, fell short of the opposition bloc progressives had hoped to muster. Thirty-nine Democrats had voted “no” on Friday on the rule to allow the foreign aid package to come to the House floor, a target that progressives just missed on Saturday on the Israel bill. Fourteen of those Democrats voted on Saturday in favor of aid to Israel, while 12 Democrats who voted to allow the package on the floor on Friday then cast votes against the funding itself. The House of Representatives has voted to pass a $95 billion foreign aid package that includes funding to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The House passed a long-stalled foreign aid package on Saturday that gives funding to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, with a majority of lawmakers backing money for American allies across the globe. The package, which now goes to the Senate, is almost certain to become law.

The package contains a fourth bill aimed at implementing sanctions and policies to counter China, Iran and Russia. It also includes a version of a House bill that passed overwhelmingly in March that forces TikTok to divest from its Chinese parent company or face a ban in the U.S. Sand Canyon was renumbered in 1956, and the changeover was complete in 1957 when the county imposed the unified house numbering system on the more rural areas of Saugus, Solemint (today's Canyon Country) and Agua Dulce.

"I know there are critics of the legislation. I understand that — it is not a perfect piece of legislation. We're not ensured that in a time of divided government." An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified the political party of a group of representatives who notably voted “no” on new aid for Israel. Twenty-five Republicans voted against the fourth bill, which included measures that could lead to a ban on TikTok in the United States and that would redirect funds from seized Russian assets to help aid Ukraine. Democrats put up a big vote — 174 — in favor of this bill, which was intended to sweeten the overall package for conservatives. So, in 1945, the Board of Supervisors imposed a system of house numbers for all unincorporated areas (including the SCV), radiating out from First and Main streets in downtown Los Angeles. For incorporated cities, the decision to adopt the county's system was left to city councils, and most did.

This durable metal house number sign is surrounded by a dramatic black border. Their purpose is, of course, to guide guests to the right home, but they also offer an opportunity to get creative, match your home's architecture, and add curb appeal. From numbered flower pots to seashell numbers to simple metal numbers, it's time to get crafty and customize your address sign. We've rounded up 40 different images of house number ideas from interior designers, DIYers, and design enthusiasts alike.

Technically the new street numbers also made sense, but you'd need a pretty big slide rule to measure from First and Main in downtown L.A. (It's the reason all house numbers in the SCV get higher as you travel north or west.) The Newhall Signal advised measuring "from the number of the CHP Station south of town, which is 18110." The change came to Newhall and Saugus "proper" in the summer of 1955 at the request of the Newhall Chamber of Commerce and a motion by County Supervisor Roger Jessup. But aid for Ukraine remains deeply unpopular with large portions of Johnson's conference, who argue the House shouldn't provide further funding without strengthening security at the U.S.-Mexico border. The plan, laid out in a rule that passed on Friday, was concocted to capitalize on the pools of support for each part of the $95 billion package, while preventing opposition to any one piece from taking down all of them. "The news was broken in the Signal issue of July 14. Nary a yip was raised about it." The "unified house numbering system" in Los Angeles County traces its roots to 1920 when the Board of Supervisors instructed the County Engineer to establish numbers for an unincorporated area east of Pasadena. Then in 1925 and 1927, the Board of Supervisors adopted a pair of ordinances authorizing the County Engineer to establish house numbers for all unincorporated areas, and it required people to display them. Found something you love but want to make it even more uniquely you?

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson speaks to the press after the chamber passed a major aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan on April 20. The Santa Clarita Valley was one of the last unincorporated territories to make the change. As noted, portions of San Fernando Road and Sierra Highway outside of Newhall had 5-digit addresses since the 1930s, but they usually weren't displayed. Thick modern numbering help make this plaque easy to spot from afar.

The vertical orientation and clean lines are a good fit for tight entryways with little room for mounting. The plaque is also available in multiple background and number colors and three sizes. Stand out from the rest of the homes on your block and display your address with spelled out numbers made of long-lasting aluminum. The black rust-proof cursive sign is an elegant addition to classic homes. Solar panels on this address plaque help keep your address visible at all hours of the day.

Outside, it can be as simple as a paint refresh or swapping out your old, tired house numbers for sleek new ones. A good house number match can make a statement and help boost curb appeal. Political thriller fiends may also remember Brosnahan, 33, for her recurring role in House of Cards as former sex worker Rachel Posner, a love interest of White House chief of staff Doug Stamper. Newly minted Oscar winner Da'Vine Joy Randolph will join in the weekend festivities as another of ABC News' A-list guests. Fresh off a successful award season for her supporting role in The Holdovers, Randolph, 37, is one of the most exciting names in Hollywood right now. ABC News, FX and Hulu are all owned by Disney, likely explaining why the news network signed her up.

A majority of Republican members — 112 — voted against aid to Ukraine, with one member voting "present." Thirty-seven Democrats voted against aid to Israel. While all Democrats voted in favor of aid to Ukraine and all but Ms. Tlaib supported funding to Taiwan, 37 left-leaning Democrats defected to vote against the Israel aid bill. They said before the vote that they opposed unfettered aid to Israel that could be used in its offensive in Gaza. The opposition to the Israel aid represented a minority of Democrats, but reflected the deep resistance to unconditional aid and the divisions in the party on Gaza. Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland represented a notable new “no” vote among Democrats, and other standouts included Representatives Donald S. Beyer Jr. of Virginia, Earl Blumenauer of Oregon and John Garamendi of California.
